Wolves capture Doumbia

Wolves have captured 22-year-old Mali international midfielder Tongo Doumbia on loan from Rennes.

The loan is for the whole of the 2012/13 Championship season with a view to a permanent move in 12 months time.

Wolves gaffer Ståle Solbakken completed the signing over the weekend with the midfielder completing a medical on Friday.

"I am delighted we have managed to sign Tongo who will bring some more quality to the squad," Wolves boss Ståle Solbakken told Wolves Official Website.

Speaking about the type of player he is he continued: "He is a box-to-box player who can operate in that central role defensively and offensively and as well as being physically strong he is also good in possession.'

Born in France Doumbia signed for LB Châteauroux as a 17-year-old, he spent two years there before moving to Rennes in 2009 and so will obviously have to adjust to life in England.

But he's certainly started off life at Molineux in the right manner, saying all the right things as Wolves unveiled our third signing of the summer.

"I am really looking forward to playing for the fans and the manager, I want to help the team as much as I can as we aim for promotion.' Doumbia said in his interview on the official site.

I'm confused by this signing. We already have Henry and Davis who are Defensive midfielders. So I hope he's a better Offensive midfielder than he is defensive.

Maybe SS doesn't rate Henry very highly, for example. I mean, it's a possibility...

That's a distinct possibility, WS84. Moreover, Doumbia has a much more rounded game than Henry and he is younger too. When I look at SS's acquisitions and targets, he appears to be thinking long term, even when signing young players who are going to improve our performances immediately.

I am liking our movements so far. Signing a midfielder that if does indeed turn out to be a young Patrick Viera, what a signing he will be... SS is working his way backwards striker to defence, hopefully developing a stronger spine to the team.. We have missed out on one defender, but he will be talking to more. Starting to feel quietly opimistic.

Im not confused its about time we bought some young talent in to the squad but make shore they are good enough With the talent we have to get us back up as you have noticed he is only on loan with an option to buy. SB60 i agree he is targeting young and hungery guys but my concern is this the right way to go and what about the defence. Please tell me he has two or three new defenders in his sights or we will never get back to the promised land.

I'm worried about the defence too but I reckon Fletcher will be on his way to Sunderland soon and then we will be able to throw money at the problem. Oh dear, for a moment I forgot who's in charge of the kitty!

Amazed there is negativity and skepticism on the E&S website but I have developed a fashion of visiting that site to get a generally grasp of (sometimes) a story or (sometimes) news, read what mister grumble and his mates have to moan about then come to vital wolves to enjoy more measured responses to goings on at the club. He is 22, he is an international, he has played for a top 6 European side, he has shown yet further indication that SS has pulling power in the market, and says he will do everything he can for the Wolves shirt. We did not know this one was coming, so we can be pleasantly surprised in equal measure when a couple of defenders put pen to paper. The bloke clearly knows what he is doing and he has not put a foot, or word wrong since he arrived. Business is looking good. The last time Kelvin Henry had a good season was when we were in the championship 'all' those years ago- he was a good midfielder who had found his level, got stuck in and did well. Once he earned a bad boy reputation it was game over. He was out of his depth. He revels in his supposed reputation but he has cost us on plenty of occasions. He scored once in 120 games for Stoke and has scored 6 for us in more than 200 games. For the record he scored one (on loan) at Cheltenham which means he has failed to hit double figures in more than 300 games. More perspective? Jody Craddock has scored 14 times for Wolves in roughly the same amount of games. Milijias has scored 4 in 62, 2 less than Kelvin with a 140 games in hand to 'catch up.' If I can find those stats in the space of three minutes I am sure SS has them on his desk next to his dvd collection of a day dreamer wannabe thug who brings more trouble to our team than he does worth.

NYCW well said with the new guy plus Davis he might not get a game we have to plan for the future. And some of are so called football players are not good enough we all sore that last season. Come on SS couple of defenders and an other striker and we will be straight back up.

NYCW - It's not Karl Henry's job to score goals. Craddock scores from corners which our centre backs should be attempting to do anyway. Henry is and has been a good player for Wolves doing all of the dirty work (his job). I see this Doumbia as a similar player to Frimpong from what I have read so far. Let's hope so.

It's not a midfielders job to score goals? We must be watching a different version of football. Go find me another midfielder who has scored less than 10 goals in 300 games.
