Preston Friendly

Whilst some teams may use the current International break to rest and take stock, Mick McCarthy has taken the opportunity to arrange a behind closed doors friendly, away, with Preston North End.

With a number of players either returning from injury or short of match fitness, the break affords McCarthy the chance to run the rule over several players on the fringe of first team action.

Michael Oakes, Jay Bothroyd, Kevin O'Connor, Denes Rosa and Mark Clyde should all play some part, as could Kieth Lowe, back from his months loan to Brighton.

Unused from the bench in 5 matches, Keith is eager to impress McCarthy who in turn is looking to bolster his defensive options.

Also due to travel are Rohan Ricketts and Carl Cort, but one name missing from the travelling party is Jackie McNamara.

Having recovered from crusiate ;ligament surgery in tiome for last seasons last home match against Brighton, a hip injury has kept him sidelined so far this term, and he is due to see a specialist to determine the best course of action to speed his recovery.

Mick McCarthy is also using eth friendly to run his eye over another Brazilian triallist Vladimir Giordani.

The 27 year old central defender currently plies his trade at with Marcilio Dias near Rio de Janeiro and is available on a season long loan.

Giordani, who owns an Italian passport has played in Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria, as well as his native Brazil.
