Relegated duo chase Liverpool's Spearing

Bolton and Wolverhampton have both wandered into life in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League last season.

Both clubs will see a number of personnel changes over the past few months and whilst not an expert on Bolton like I at least pretend to be about my beloved Wolves, I'm fairly confident that Bolton have not seen the number of changes that we have seen at Molinuex?

Either way, both clubs are after one man, and he is 23-year-old Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing.

New Liverpool gaffer Brendan Rodgers has walked into Anfield, in a similar style to our own Ståle Solbakken.

He's taken a look around and made a list of all those who do not fit into his vision and Spearing is one of those players.

While young, Liverpool are happy to offload him on a permanent basis and both ourselves and Bolton have been linked to a £3million switch, although reports yesterday that a deal had been reached were premature.

ok, ok so i've been away on hols for a week and come back to see quite a number of new faces ... and notably a defender - what is the general consensus about the new recruits ? Also, are we seriously considering letting Doyle go ... we are light as it is up front ?

Do we really need another midfielder? I realise Liverpool have had a lot of conpetition over the years in midfield and this could be why he has not broken through there. But I'm not sure we need to add further to this position... Is he better than what we have already?

Would prefer a new left back or striker myself. Seem a bit top heavy in midfielders now.

Yes, I am still a bit worried about the back four too, but I reckon Stale has a few further signings. Tbh I have been pleased with the response of RJ and I have a soft spot for Wardinho. He is a honest kid and will be fine at Championship level. This time last year he was our best player in the PL. I am very excited about a young, pacey and dynamic midfield. This is where the modern game is won and lost. Look at Swansea, look at how much better Derby's midfield were on Saturday! Move the ball with pace and purpose. This is the key to the success of the A****n. I am with you Winston. Long live the Revolution!

I agree about the need to create a 'young, pacey and dynamic midfield' and we are almost there. I am keenly looking forward to watching Sako and Doumbia in action. Spearing would be useful as an enforcer as we only possess Henry and a surprisingly fragile Davis. Of course, we should recruit a hitman upfront and, more importantly, a couple of defenders. If we do not stop leaking goals, improvements elsewhere will be valueless, although I accept fudgewolves's point about the vital role played by midfielders in the modern game. It's where we have failed in the past, that is, alongside an inability to defend at one end and to score at the other.

so southbank basically the problems have only been in midfield, inability to defend, and inability to score

I agree with having a young and pacey midfield but be honest do you see that happening with Henry and Edwards in midfield they are more like a dance routine one step forward three steps back, the sooner Stale plays his own players the better, as for Doyle I will not miss his lack of scoring ability, Stale has bought new strikers who will not get better sat on the bench, it is the same strike force minus Fletcher a strike force that lacks one fundamental point Goals, remember Fletcher the one who came of the bench and scored er thats it goals, we were inept against Derby with not one attempt of any vertue on goal in the second half and yet we have two strikers on the bench aching for a chance me thinks clip board man has influence sky walker, how else would Edwards be in our midfield along side crab man I hope these new signings are given there chance and I pray they take it for I for one am sick of the dross left behind by super Mick

Patrickdoran: given last season's dreadful performance, on top of two scrape-by years, didn't you feel the same way about our weaknesses? Of course, I should have exempted our last line of defence from any criticism.

Well, I feel that our scoring was actually ok last season, but the sole problem all season was defence (both in midfield and back 4) A quick look back at last years table shows stoke with 34 goals, villa with 36, and us level with wigan on 38. All of them, except us stayed up. When frimpong joined and kightly was on form it looked like mick had found that winning formula just in time again! but as soon as frimpong got that injury it was all over... IMO

I agree, Patrickdoran. I was at the match when Frimpong suffered his season-ending injury. My heart sank because with his leg went our chances of staying up.

Hey Reading/Southampton/West Ham all got promoted conceeding an average of a goal a game so we are on target defensively hahaha ! , All I do know is whatever 11 Stale considers his best it will take 4-5 games to all pull in the right direction so a little bit of patience Wolves fans and I'm sure it will come , dont forget Reading was mid table for 2/3's of the season and then won it , its a funny old league and me personally thinks play offs will be a success this season !
