Wolves in search of new identity

Wolves in search of new identity

After four games back in the Championship, many Wolves fans would have hoped for a few more points than four.

With one win and a draw at Molineux, partnered with two away defeats, Wolves ended our first month back in the second tier of English football 19th in the table.

With Blackpool and Nottingham Forest the only two sides still undefeated this season it's not exactly panic time just yet, but why the slow start?

"We knew that this would be a difficult period with Kightly, Fletcher and Jarvis going and we need to build a new team," a reflecting Ståle Solbakken told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: "We also needed to get last season`s hangover out of the way and I still think there was a little bit of that left.

"We need to get rid of that and build up our own identity and at the moment we are not there yet.

Vital Wolves Comment: Making excuses or genuine reasons why we have started off life in the Championship a bit slowly?

Of course a new squad does take time to gel and the loses of three quality players will of course affected us a bit, but Solbakken has appeared to have been given a free reign on rebuilding the squad with nine additions over the summer and yet only three of those new faces made it into the starting eleven against Cardiff.

Is the relegation hangover a valid point when he's had the chance to refresh the squad as much as he has? Blackburn are second afterall? Or does it smack of getting the excuses in early?

perhaps kightly could see what was going on behind the scenes and this was why he was so eager to bolt. You can say what you like, but with similar resources look at what the albion have achieved versus us... polar opposites. They have made sensible purchases too ... but clearly more effective ones. It is way too early to be criticising Stales master plan, but it's not too early to criticise the lack of defensive recruits ...

He needs more time, as for Terry connor, looks like his time was up! Maybe hes not part of the new identity...

I'm sure if we wait a couple of days, or so, there'll be a thread opened up to discuss TC.

How coco lasted 13 years is beyond me. If he had any decency he would have walked at the end of last season and you would suspect SS has had to go in and demand they get rid for a number of reasons, one of which would fit with creating a new identity which you can not do with someone around who was part of and a stinky lingering reminder of our downfall. I am not really seeing excuses- he seems to be calling it as he sees it- I have faith that ultimately he will get it right but the fact Stearman is still featuring concerns me.

I don't know about making excuses because at the end of the day performances speak volumes. I managed to catch the Cup game against Northampton on Al Jazeera whilst travelling last week and it is by far the worst Wolves performance as a team I have seen. Headless chickens comes to mind, no idea about playing as a team and the very fact that SS watched ALL the videos from last season and still basically has the same defence is unbelievable EXCUSES please as to why this terrible defence has not been changed

There's no need to wait for articles to be published before discussing different topics, just head over to the forum. If all the users who used the have your say section on the front pages used the forums it would be buzzing in no time.

The only mistake Stale has made is playing the morons left by Mick, I also saw the Northampton game and it came alive when his players came on that midfield took the p and dare I say Stearman and Elekobi had a new lease of life, just maybe he has taken Conners advice and the results speak for themselves, I read that Stale was not happy with the trainig methods, and lets face it I have not known many teams with the ammount of injuries we get, three players went injured after the Northampton game hence the team selection against Cardiff, so maybe it is the training, Micks ethos was do it in training or else, like most I have played football and knew my limits so as to avoid getting hurt but it did not detract from my perfomance on the pitch, some great players do not like training Besty was one, would Mick not have picked him its cods wollop, training should be about keeping fit and trying new methods not running round getting stuck in and chance getting injured, I agree about the defence though but we have signed players who can play there, read there port folios, Stale has signed players who can play different roles and he must now begin to use them, I cannot see the Blake and Doyle partenership reaping dividends it never has and it never will, Doyle is at best a midfielder and hasnt anyone told Blake to loose weight, Stale will get it right with his own team and staff so good riddence TC
