Pain might continue

Pain might continue

Wolves may need to continue to take a few more steps backwards before moving forward again according to chief executive Jez Moxey.

After deciding to sack Mick McCarthy amidst a battle for survival in the Premier League and then getting the search for a replacement all wrong over the following weeks and months.

Wolves entered a new era over the summer with the appointment of Stale Solbakken.

Some might call it a gamble, but we won't really know for sure if it's one worth taking for a while to come according to Jez.

"It may need to get worse before it gets better and maybe people need to understand that," the Wolves CEO told Express & Star.

The Wolves board have well and truly backed the new gaffer. He's been able to mould a whole new squad into his vision.

Players have departed for big fees, whilst over half a dozen new faces have come in.

He continued: "We have to be realistic about what we can achieve given the scale of change.

"We want to win every single game in which we compete but we`ve got half a new team here and everyone needs to find their feet.

He concluded: "We have to get out of this propensity to lose. It hurts the fans and it should hurt everyone in our organisation in equal measure. But we are realistic about the project that has got under way."

Vital Wolves Comment: The week started with us running an article about Wolves trying to find a new identity and these comments certainly back that.

Did we come to the conclusion that the club was just lining up its excuses early, or are they making valid points?

If so, how long will you remain patient while the building process continues?

There is little doubt that the transformation will take time, I think the frustration, on my part at least, is that 3 years ago, we had just survived our first season in the prem (with games to go), had the guarantee of at least another year in the top flight, the perfect opportunity to kick on to bigger and better things - and what did Jez Moxey do ? Sweet F. A. We spent ***** all in the following two seasons and got sent packing with a bang. To those who (repeatedly) bleat on about the fat sack of excrement getting 20 odd mil for our best players, I as you YET AGAIN, how much will be ploughed back into the squad ??? Jez Moxey put us in this position by misdirecting and possibly misappropriating funds at a pivotal stage in our development. He is responsible for us getting relegated, and losing our best players, and now he wants us to be understanding as it takes years to recover. He can get ****

here's my translation on some of his latest remarks>>> "last season’s collapse" -AKA last season's failure to invest in the squad.... "it may get worse before it gets better" - I am still not finished rinsing the club .... "We have to be realistic about what we can achieve" - Most of the cash is going in mine and Steve's back pocket - good luck getting back to the prem on what's left .... "Everyone needs to feel the pain of loss " - A pain and loss which £25K a week makes much easier to bear no doubt .... "foreign players take longer to settle" - someone forgot to tell Pogrebnyak, Jelavic, Hazard or Cazorla that ...

Sorry Ad but can't agree with any of that. To say that Jez is fleecing the club is tant amount to slanderous. Jez is the money man but it's not his money. He gets told what he can and can't spend by the board. Problem is because he appears to be at the top table due to the boards silence you automatically apportion blame to him.....unrealistic!!!! I am no fan of his but it does concern me when ppl constantly berate him for things that are out of his control. He doesn't pick the team, he doesn't decide on ground or academy improvements....he facilitates deals and does a good job at it considering the realistic evaluations of some our now sold players.

things out of his control ?? he has no say in where the money is spent ? Mccarthy had no say in how much nmoney he was given, and Steve Morgan is simply the financial backer ... geez, no one is to blame then. must be the fans.

The board tell Jez what his budget is... He in turn tells the manager what the budget is. The manager states his case for the players he would like....Jez does the deal. I.e. Jez is actually the middle man. So...u don't blame MM for making some appalling buys?? No wonder Morgan was reluctant to give him money when you saw the millions that were either sat on the bench or out on loan. I'd love us to do a Man Ciry but that is completely unrealistic. Time ppl realised we are a Championship team with Championship players nd a Championship budget. In many ways being out of the Premier league is a Godsend. We are probably at our level and should be happy with it. Any occasional forays into the Prem can only be seen as a bonus. We were never gonna challenge the last time we went up. I'd rather spend a couple of seasons rebuilding in the Swansea mould and going up with a team capable of competing.

I agree with Rustmonkey, Moxey is an employee plain and simple and I for one wished he was in government saving the country money he does such a good job, yea Admant I for one blame the fans, they have driven good managers from the Wolves hence the mess we are in, Taylor to name one, all because he wanted to sell Steve Bull maybe he knew his knee was dodgy, Wolves fans must be the biggest moaners of all four divisions, what do you want a Leeds and Pompey on our hands, the board have given good money to see it wasted all Mccarthy did was stick with his blue eyed boys and never gave the signings a chance, he only gave Fletcher the nod because Doyle got injured, so support Stale and lets see were he goes with it and lets face it the board did what the fans wanted and gave them a clear out, and please South bank stop barracking the North bank we are in this together the past has gone, leave Moxey and co alone and do what you are supposed to do support your team without the boos, you got what you wanted the Albion will do what they always do cock it up, remember we were top after three games with seven points and we will pass them on the way, it does take time to get it right, the board have given Stale what he asked for as did Mick I sincerely hope Stale gets shut of Micks dross and plays his own squad me thinks good times are a comin
