The perfect choice for Pennant

29-year-old Jermaine Pennant believes his three-month loan move to Wolverhampton Wanderers was the perfect choice for the out-of-favour Stoke City winger.

The former England Under-21's international has had a chequered career over the years, right from his move from Notts County to Arsenal he has always remained a controversial character.

Through multiple driving offences, a short stay in prison, an electronic tag, a relationship with a glamour model girlfriend which ended with another police incident, relationships with soap actresses, to abandoning his Porsche outside a Spanish train station for five months after reportedly forgetting he owned it, Pennant hasn't ever been one to dodge the spotlight.

An undoubtedly gifted footballer, it's all the baggage that I have to admit I'm a bit concerned about, but on loan, with him desperate to prove himself, he sounds positive at least that this is the right move for him.

"I`m excited to have made the loan move, Wolves are a massive club and it`s been a tough game and a great encounter every time I`ve played against them.' he told the Wolves Official Website.

He added: "There were other teams involved but with the stature of Wolves, and their position in the table, helped make my mind up.

"I did some research into it and know they want to play good football and have got good training facilities.

"It is close to home as well and in all was the perfect choice.

Vital Wolves Comment: Does anyone else share my concerns regarding his off the field record? We've had issues with team morale before is Pennant a potential liability?

I think it's a good signing and better than we could have hoped for under the circumstances. I am going to the match on Saturday so shall be able to assess his performance. However, as I am staying up North with a friend, a Huddersfield supporter, I shall not be able to file my report until Sunday afternoon.

Have to agree with your concerns regarding his off-field behaviour although his ability as a player is not in question. From what I have read about JP it should be a good move for us because historically he has tended to do well for the first 3 months or so at a new club before seeming to take his eye off the ball and loose enthusiasm!

That's good to hear astraltrader! Was beginning to wonder if I was on my own on this one! Yes limited risk with a short term loan, but would be very cautious if the prospect of signing him permanently in January came up.
