Africa Cup of Nations dilemma

Bakary Sako has been handed an Africa Cup of Nations dilemma.

The international competition runs between January 19 to February 10 and Wolves could be heavily effected.

Razak Boukari could be named in the Togo team, whilst midfielder Tongo Doumbia could be included in the Mali squad and now winger Bakary Sako could be set to join Doumbia in the Mali squad as they are considering calling him up ahead of the tournament.

Sako has been sensational this season, scoring his fifth goal of the season against Charlton on Saturday. He was born in Paris, but his parents were born in Mali and he's so far postponed making a decision about his international career.

"I don`t know at the moment - it`s a very difficult decision. They want me to go with them and we`ll see about it in time. At the moment I`m not sure.' Sako told the Express & Star.

He continued: "I`ve played for France at Under-21 level but I`ve never played for Mali before, even though both my parents are from Mali.

"I speak Malian too but I`ll wait to make my choice.

"I don`t know if there`s a deadline I have to decide by, but I don`t know if I`m going to play for France or Mali."

At 24-years-old he will have to make a decision soon and if he decides to join up with Mali, he, along with Boukari and Doumbia would certainly miss four games which fall into the African Cup of Nations tournament dates. But once you add in training camps etc, they could miss around six games.

I think he should do it, I know its suicide for us right? But the lad deserves to be a hero at international level as well. I would prefer if we could actually cope without him for 6 games as we are way too reliant on his goals.

Bugger playing for Mali we need Sako if we are to have any chance of promotion this season - to miss his services for 6 games as well as Doumbia and Boukari would be nothing short of disasterous!

The manager and the board were well aware of this when they signed the three players.
