Doumbia set for return in derby?
Tongo Doumbia could be in the thoughts of Ståle Solbakken as he selected his squad to face Birmingham on Saturday.
The Mali international was rested for the 4-1 victory over Bristol City last weekend, which means by the time the Midlands derby comes around he will have had two weeks off.
"I hope that Tongo will be 'reloaded` because he has looked very jaded in his last few games so hopefully he can get back to the levels he showed in his first six, seven or eight weeks," Solbakken told Wolves Official Website.
Doumbia had of course missed the majority of pre-season after a falling out with his former club, which led to his move to Molinuex.
Solbakken believes that this lack of fitness and preparation before the season got underway is the reason for him looking jaded in recent games.
So Doumbia returned to France with a personalised training programme acting as a refresher pre-season for Tongo, returning to the Wolves training ground on Wednesday.
But Solbakken has had to refute claims that it was a poor decision to allow him to do this fitness work away from the rest of the squad and return to France.
He added: "He could do his individual programme, but why do it here when we were away for three days, why not go back to France, do the individual work, see his family and get two in one?
"It was only common sense, and I don`t think other players are tired.
"It`s also a new culture to him after playing 26 games for Rennes last season, and he`s played 18 already this season without a pre-season so I don`t think it`s strange, it`s just common sense.'
Vital Wolves Comment: What do you make of the whole situation? Would you have preferred him to be part of the team and work alongside his team-mates? Or if he returns a better player after a break with his family in France would you be happy?
