Doumbia nursed through training

Tongo Doumbia is still taking steps towards full fitness with Wolves.

The Mali international missed two games through fatigue, but returned to Ståle Solbakken's squad to face Birmingham last week after running through a personal training programme.

Doumbia had of course missed the majority of pre-season after a falling out with his former club, which led to his move to Molinuex.

Solbakken believed that this lack of fitness and preparation before the season got underway was the reason for him looking jaded, so it was decided that Doumbia would return to France with a personalised training programme acting as a refresher pre-season.

The decision proved controversial because Solbakken had to refute claims that it was a poor decision to allow him to do this fitness work away from the rest of the squad and return to France.

It was certainly an usual step, but one that Wolves had hoped would see him return to England 'reloaded`.

Unfortunately that hasn't been the case and a personalised training schedule will continue to provided for Doumbia as he attempts to catch up to speed.

"He should be ready to carry on now, but he`s also been working with Tony Daley this week and he`s nursed him a little bit," said Solbakken to the Express & Star.

He added: "It might be that he trains lighter in some areas, but tougher in others so his body is ready for the rest of the season."
