Berra in pole position

Wolverhampton Wanderers gaffer Ståle Solbakken has conceded that Christophe Berra's Wolves future is almost out of his hands.

The 27-year-old Scotland international is currently Transfer-listed as his current deal at Molineux is set to expire at the end of the current season.

Berra had looked odds on to leave Wolves this season, but apparently 'tentative talks' had been held in November between the club and the player and Wolverhampton Wanderers gaffer Ståle Solbakken is now keen to try and negotiate a new deal.

However, with only six months remaining on his contract Christophe Berra is the one who now holds all the cards with Wolves leaving discussions so late.

'We`ve agreed that because his contract is so close to the end now that we`re not in pole position for anything so he decides that in a way because it`s coming to the transfer window.' Solbakken told the Birmingham Mail.

He continued: 'I think it`s positive and he`s gradually getting better and better and we`re in talks with him.

"So we`ll see where it ends."

Berra has really stamped his place down alongside Roger Johnson in the Wolves defence, leaving Georg Margreitter on the sidelines.

That has probably surprised Solbakken who believes that Berra has improved mentally over the course of this season.

He added: "I think he had to sort out his head in terms of being tougher against himself. He had a tendency to hide behind excuses.

"Now he makes more correct decisions, which means his overall performances have improved.

look, who cares, he is an average defender at best and the fact that teams havent been clambering over each other to take him since we tx listed him ... and even more baffling, Stale has come out saying he wil only look at Frimpong if Doumbia goes away on Africa Cup duty ... What the ?? Frimpong is a huge chunk better than Diumbia, who ironically seems to be the one struglling for fitness, and we should be as nice as we possibly can to him to get return. Very puzzled.
