'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It's official, it's Dean Saunders

Dean Saunders has been confirmed as the new manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Following Ståle Solbakken's sacking after the embarrassing FA Cup defeat to Conference side Luton, many Wolves fans might have feared the worst.

It might have been obvious that things were not working out with Solbakken, but following the debacle that followed Mick McCarthy's dismissal last year with the events which unfolded, leading to a prolonged period of the club in limbo, we didn't want the same thing to happen again!

Thankfully this year it hasn't done. As Wolves made a quick approach for Doncaster Rovers manager Dean Saunders and quickly wrapped up a compensation package with the League One club and agreed personal terms with Saunders.

A brief statement on Wolves Official Website this morning read: 'Compensation has been agreed with Doncaster Rovers to allow the 48-year-old to take over at Molineux following Saturday`s departure of Ståle Solbakken.

'Saunders, who has completed the UEFA Pro Licence, has guided Rovers to second place in League One this season having started his managerial career with Wrexham.

'He has also worked in the top flight as a first team coach at Blackburn and strikers coach at Newcastle, as well as being assistant manager of Wales for three years.'

He will speak to the media for the first time since his appointment later today.

Well like it or not people it is time for us and the players to get behind the manager and hope that he can sort out this mess!

We will all get behind him......the question is.....WILL THE PLAYERS????

If you are looking for a reason to love Dean, then search "Dean Saunders throws the ball against the keeper"

The fact that when asked..Dave Edwards says it was the right time for SS to go speaks volumes for the players feelings towards him. We pay good money to be entertained.....they get paid a fortune to go on a go slow......disrespectful not only to the manager but more importantly to the fans.....*****ers!!!!!

I dont know enough to have an opinion on Saunders, he might find his level in Championship ... but sadly, we already had the Champs maestro in Mick Mccarthy. Can this guy really get us to the prem, and if so, how the heck is he going to keep us there ... Seems like we are going to go round and round and round for some time... How can we hope to move forward when any guy who comes in who tries anything new, the players gang up on him ... Good ol Harry came in to QPR and effectively stated in one of his 1st press release "I know who wants to play for us and I know who I will replace" ... we need someone with balls like that ... ship them out, ship them all out if need be... the manager needs to be boss, not some talentless overpayed prats who want to do as little work as possible for the biggest payoff. WE ARE WOLVES

I saw Matt Murray on the box this morning saying how he was "sure that the players had been fully behind Stale... but..." Maybe it's because Matt is obviously as bright as a black hole that he can utter that without a hint of irony. It's another thing entirely to expect us to believe it and is quite insulting.

sodding hell admant I actually agree with you for a change! my problem is three things? 1. Apparently Saunders is a personal friend of Morgans? 2. He is also his golfing buddy and 3. Stale was recommended to Morgan by Jan Molby whilst having a drink in the old liverpool players lounge(apperently it was on 5 live), the fact that the club "acted" so fast makes me wonder if this wasn't in the pipeline for some time?

Lets see if Saunders gets Frimpong on loan
Patrickdoran
You won`t find a more committed and enthusiastic manager than Deano, if your players have got it in them Deano will bring it out. Only down side for you is he must be earmarked as Welsh manager sooner or later ! Donny Rovers Till I Die.

Welcome to the 'The Colonel' and risking the wrath of Banksy I think wer'e fairly safe that he will not give in to 'huge temptation' of managing Wales.
Crete Wolf
dont know much about Saunders except that he was a great player but we must give him a chance and maybe he has the balls to route out the numpties who would not play for Stale as was obvious to us all, Morgan hinted as much on sky news he basicly said if they think he is a soft touch they are in for a big shock maybe Morgan knows the truth and did not think Stale had the guts for a fight who knows im sad to see him go but players and managers will always come and go but Wolves will always remain lets see if the board back him because i for one am sick and tired of the board making our club a laughing stock and i ask all true fans to stand up and drown out the boo boy morons and whingers they are the minority and have had there way for to long Molinuex should be a fortress the fans do that and they should not wait for something to happen fans make things happen and as late the moron brigade have been a thorn in our sides yes we have had something to moan at but please do it outside after the match Welcome Dean you will have my full support

Crete Wolf: it's a great honour to represent one's country - I competed for Wales in athletics as a pole vaulter- but I would rather WW enjoyed a modicum of success even at the expense of Wales winning the Six Nations' Rugby Championship or lifting the World Cup (hmm: not certain about the second one). I am reasonably optimistic about our chances under DS, if only because he seems to possess a more positive, lively and engaging personality than his predecessor. And, that seems to be what is needed to jolly along the poor loves in the squad. I am sure he will give us 110%, even if it means breaking a fundamental law of mathematics to do so.

My problem is it makes no odds whe the manger is we still cant defend orscore goals so all less he gets a tansfer kitty to go and buy nothing will change. As Moxey has said players have to leave before we bring players in which does not help as no one wants any of the crap we have good look Deano.
kiawolves
I am not sure why there is so much negativity towards DS, found his level in the championship was mentioned above, look all the good prem managers have to start somewhere, I know you have heard it before but nobody wanted Furgusson at Man U , they hated him for the first 6 -12 months... they have to start somehwere. Im sure Mick wasnt a majician straight away. Lets see what happens with DS, he's here now so get behind him. It will be interesting to see what he makes of our square pegs in round holes players. did Donny have a decent young up and coming left back anyone?
gregory house
Well, Johnwolf it is a new year, new leaf and all that.... Just read a press release from DS which I found very encouragin... he states that the players picked on Friday get the "first bite of the apple" and "“They have to show me they want to be here. If I see weaknesses, then we will try to do something about it." He goes on to say... “We need to find players who are determined to fight for the club. That’s the message I’m putting over.” I might not know anything about him, but I like what he is saying ... WE ARE WOLVES !!
AdMant
It's as if he's been briefed that the players haven't been trying...
winstonsmith84
I, too, was encouraged by DS's comments and his stated intention to weed out the deadwood. But, one would expect such a no-nonsense approach from a Welshman! I am really looking forward to Friday's match against Blackburn, anticipating a lot more application from our players.
