'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Saunders the task master

Dean Saunders believes that players work harder under him than anyone else.

Saunders is seen by many as still in the fledgling years of his managerial career.

Over the past decade, Saunders has worked his way up through ranks, he was a coach at Bradford, before moves to Blackburn and Newcastle to work with Graeme Souness.

After a period of unemployment Saunders joined John Toshack in the Wales set-up before becoming the manager of Wrexham in 2008.

He failed to get them promoted to the Football League but his performances were enough to earn the Doncaster Rovers job in September 2011.

He was tasked with the job of keeping Doncaster in the Championship and although he turned results around a bit, they were relegated to League One.

He leaves Doncaster joint top of the League One table and taking on a Wolves side low of confidence following relegation from the Premier League, a poor first half to the Championship season and being knocked out of the FA Cup by Conference outfit Luton.

Saunders believes that discipline is what's required at Molineux and he's going to work the players hard to get out of this current slump.

'If you lose in the FA Cup at Luton, that's a disastrous result, As well as the players being down, that's knocked the stuffing out of them.' Saunders told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'I think they just want to get on the training pitch and get it out of their system. We have to go forward now and I think they have got the message.

'Footballers like discipline, believe it or not, most of them anyway. Without discipline, you have not got anything.

'To do what I have done, I have needed a streak of determination. I might have a laugh and joke but players train harder under me than anywhere else. I expect a lot from them.'

So, it's back to putting a shift in. Our brave new dawn didn't make it as far as mid-day...

Well, at least he has a plan. Talk is cheap, so we wait and see.

I understand the ironic point you are making, WS84, but at the moment putting in a shift would mark a vast improvement in the attitude of the players and with it their performance.

They certainly don't do 12 hr shifts. I work harder in my meal break so any kind of shift would be welcome.
