Baptiste is Wolves number one target

Having missed out on signing Blackpool's Alex Baptiste in the January transfer window, Saunders will make a fresh move to sign him in the summer.

The 27-year-old was a target for Wolves, Blackburn and Leicester. But Blackpool rejected all offers despite being out of contract in the summer.

Saunders is believed to have made an enquiry of around £1million for the defender, but it was knocked back at a fairly early stage so instead he will make another move for him in the future.

"There`s only one player I tried to sign who I see in my plans for next season, to put the first building block in place," said Saunders to the Express & Star.

He continued: "We made a big offer for him but we will have to wait until the summer to get him. He`s contracted to another team until the summer and he`s not available.

"We never put a written offer in, but it was knocked back verbally. But I`m still pursuing that one and we`ve got to be better defensively."

One option would be to wait to sign him for free in the summer, or some form of loan move with a view to a permanent deal could be struck if Saunders was desperate to bring him to Molineux sooner rather than later.

Yes, but he is 27 and will Saunders still be in the chair to chase him in the summer?
