Liverpool defender joins Wolves

Dean Saunders has made his second signing as Wolves boss, capturing Liverpool left-back Jack Robinson.

The 19-year-old has joined Wolves until the end of the season and is immediately available and ready for selection against Barnsley this evening.

Robinson is a record breaker at Liverpool, becoming the clubs youngest ever player when he made his debut as a 16-year-old against Hull City in May 2010.

It wasn't just a one-off appearance either, as the following season he made two further Premier League appearances, starting against Birmingham in a 5-0 victory.

Last season he was limited to just two Carling Cup appearances (both starts), while this season he has made six appearances featuring in the Capital One Cup, FA Cup and Europa League.

"Jack has played a few times this season for Liverpool - he's a good young player and they've seen a lot of him, Saunders told Wolves Official Website.

He added: "I spoke to Brendan Rodgers, I spoke to Steve Cooper who was his coach in the u16s and 17s, and I've spoken to nearly all the coaches that he's played for and all of them have been very positive about him.

"He's got really good quality on the ball, he's aggressive, and he's a winner .

"Sometimes a young lad and a fresh face comes in and lifts the place, and I think Jack is strong enough to be able to deal with the pressure."

Vital Wolves Comment: Good luck to the lad, obviously he provides competition to Stephen Ward at left back, so will be interesting to see how we line-up. Can't imagine we'd sign a player and not play him.

I hope he plays this evening because, as a Liverpool player, he will be expected to tackle an opponent rather than inviting him into our penalty area. This would also allow DS to try out Ward as a forward: remember the goal he scored against Liverpool? He can't be worse than those players in front of him masquerading as strikers.

I can't imagine he's been signed as 'competition' to Ward, and i'd be genuinely surprised-not to say dismayed-if he didn't go straight in tonight. The first goal at Leicester should have convinced DS that we really do have a full-back who almost literally refuses to tackle. That then should resign SW to the reserves as a bench regular. I wouldn't play him up front (or anywhere else) until all other options have been tried first. Which for the time being, unless we sign someone else, would mean giving Cassidy a run.None of us get to see him in training, though, and if DS reckons he doesn't look up to the job, then he's not going to play him. We've just got to rely on his judgement for that, but he's obviously going to put out what he believes to be his best starting XI.

I totally agree with WW above. I hope he goes straight into our starting line up - if not tonight then the very next match at the latest. We have to avoid relegation at all costs and this is a positive step to bolster our leaking defence.
