If you want me gone, I'll go says Morgan

Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Steve Morgan declared at last nights fans parliament that if you want him out, he'll go.

Chairman Morgan and Chief Executive Jez Moxey have been subjected to criticism over the past year following the sacking of Mick McCarthy, the handling of the search for a new manager, the appointment of TC, relegation from the Premier League, the appointment of Stale Solbakken and the slide into the relegation zone of the Championship.

On Friday the feeling of anguish amongst supporters could reach an all-time high with a planned pre-match and post-match protest in front of the Sky Sports cameras for Friday nights game against Watford.

"I would ask what they would like to achieve (from the protest). Do they think we don`t know what is going on? That we know how people feel?' he was quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

And in an almost be careful what you wish for comment, Morgan added: 'If they want to drive me out of the club I will go. I am not here for any other reason than to try and make the club successful. I am pouring money in and we are losing £6.5 million this year and you don`t want to see the budget for next year. We have players on big salaries and are going to lose an absolute fortune.

"It (the job) is a real pleasure for me but if we get to the point where I am not wanted then I will go. But if that day comes it won`t be for the wont of trying or effort. I am fully committed to this football club and I want exactly the same as you want."

Morgan was also quick to praise the job of Jez Moxey, who has taken a 50% pay-cut since relegation from the Premier League.

Morgan added: "Fans genuinely applaud effort and if they knew the effort Jez puts in they would be applauding Jez and not giving him stick."

Vital Wolves Comments: Some interesting figures came out of the meeting:

* £72,866,000 spent on player transfer fees over past five years.

* £35,958,000 net spend.

* Wolves one of the top ten spending clubs in England over the past five years.

* Turnover this season set to halve from £60million last year following relegation from the Premier League.

* Wolves set for a £6.5million loss this year.

* Development of stand - £18 million

So if thye didnt do the stand there would have been 11.5 for new players and we would break even? Am I doing my maths right here?

Well my heart bleeds for Steve Morgan. Who would have imagined that he could not sleep at nights for worrying about Wolverhampton Wanderers? If his sleeping habits are that bad then the answer is to do what he has suggested he will do if the fans want him to go, sell up and go! Regarding his comments which appear more detailed on the B'ham Mail site, he quotes that in his time at Molineux he has spent £73M on players. Now taking in account the 2 years spent in the Championship when he arrived, that equates to an average of less than £15M per season. Is that an enormous amount or what? Personally I think it just goes to show how little investment in the playing squad there has been. I would be interested to see a breakdown of ins and outs over that 5 year period. Perhaps another reader can oblige me? I have to laugh at Morgan's comment about Moxey being the best CEO in the league. Which league are we talking about Steve, the Championship, The Premier League or both? Which begs the question, IF he is so good, why haven't other clubs been falling over themselves to employ him? Finally I was amazed but not surprised to read that as many as 37 fans were allowed into the meeting BUT no media! (- why not I wonder, hmm?) 37 fans! Wow, that is truly representative of the 1000's that attend home matches. I'm sure the atmosphere was red hot with those fans shouting their comments at Morgan and co! Basically what I can gather emanated from the Parliament meeting was just a series of soundbites from Morgan which an Oscars award winner would say on the night. Nothing he said was new nor was it not expected. All in all, I suggest Morgan should do what he said he would do AND GO and take 'the best CEO in the league' with him, I don't think either would be greatly missed. Presuming a sale should come about, I am sure there will be a number of offers as the club is hardly a 'dead dog' and has potential to be a top club again (ref: my letter of yesterday). Finally, a grand gesture from Morgan would be to do what Sir Jack did, sell the club for a tenner. So how about it Steve?

Some argue that we should be careful what we wish for... Without a wealthy owner we might have no money for transfers, have to sell our best players and plummet down the league ...

In other news... perhaps your poll should read "happy with Morgan" becuase, realistically, are we THAT unhappy with Saunders? It seems to me as if the dressing room has been a disaster for some time, and the poor bloke has been brought in to accomplish the impossible... Im not sure I blame Dean for that, in fact, the 3 "additions" he has made I thought have been very good.
