'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Are Wolves interested in Davis?

On Wednesday Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis became the new favourite for the head coach role at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

For the neutrals his inclusion in the Wolves short-list might have raised a few eyebrows, especially considering when you've got the likes of former Millwall manager Kenny Jackett and former England boss Steve McClaren's CV's sitting on Jez Moxey's office desk.

However once you consider that the 47-year-old is a self confessed Wolves fan and has experience of the lower leagues (however brief), then perhaps he could be an ideal candidate?

The bookies certainly seem to think so as he remains at evens with the likes of Sky Bet, Paddy Powe and Stan James.

But reports from the BBC that he had had his second interview regarding the job yesterday appears to be wide of the mark.

If he had spoke to the likes of Wolves head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell who has been leading the process, or chief executive Jez Moxey or even chairman Steve Morgan, Wolves would have had to have made a formal approach to Crewe's chairman to speak to Davis and that doesn't appear to have happened.

Speaking to the Express & Star Davis said: 'We have a relationship I trust and an understanding that if there were anything of interest to tell me about, the chairman would do so.

"I have not heard a thing from him so I have nothing to discuss."

I don't think we are interested in Davis - it seems that the Express and Stir! are pushing the story, he could be an outsider but I would still prefare McClaren with Jackett has second choice, the club have to look at what is best in the long term - me - call me a fool, but I believe we will be back in the prem within three seasons - with the right guy in charge.

Coyle for me but if you listen to what people say.....none of the candidates are ideal. Still think that IF SS was still here.....we'd be in the Championship still.

It was the BBC that reported he'd been interviewd for the second time yesterday. The Express & Star only reported a known fact:He was odds-on favourite with the bookies. He's still favourite, by quite some distance.PP has him @ evens, with Coyle, Jackett and McClaren all @ 6/1. So, either the bookies really do know something,or there's a lot of punters who think they do, or both.

My vote goes for McLaren, vast experience, will command respect for his time in the game and think of the merchandise sales in wolves umbrellas. Not sure about Coyle, I think he is another Mark Mcghee and we really don't want to go there again

You do not want Coyle! Take it from thousands of BWFC fans who rumbled him much earlier than the board - unfortunately for us. His two worst traits, other than being incompetent and looking stupid in his Jimmy Clitheroe outfit, are that he never admits or learns from his mistakes and he is totally deluded about everything! Good luck anyway. We really enjoyed our trip to Molyneux.

The real question is will he be a coach, under a director of football or a manager. Who ever comes he will be cheap.
