Wolves miss out on Paterson

If reports are to be believed Wolves have missed out on the signing of former Burnley striker Martin Paterson as he has signed for Huddersfield.

The 26-year-old Northern Ireland international was out-of-contract at Burnley and according to the Lancashire Telegraph had held talks with Birmingham, Charlton, Huddersfield, Ipswich, Middlesbrough and of course, ourselves.

Now the one obvious point you have to raise when looking at that list, is that they are all Championship clubs and we are not. Now it's good to have ambition, but we also have to be realistic. If we were still in the Championship we may have held a bit more clout in regards to negotiations, but right now, we're competing with the likes of Crewe and Walsall for signings not clubs gunning for promotion to the Premier League come 11 months time.

Paterson has signed a two-year deal with Huddersfield, becoming their second signing of the summer after signing Adam Hammill from us.

why go for him anyway as we have enough strikers, what signal does it give to our young lads, either we are going to play them or not
