Bolton full-back Sam Ricketts has been expected to become Kenny Jackett's first signing as Wolves boss for a while now.
The obvious focus around Molineux is on youth, with a vision of signing younger players and developing from our own academy as Wolves attempt to prepare for life in the third tier of English football.
But while nurturing young and exciting talent is a good longer term vision to hold, the need to blend that with experience has lead to Ricketts stepping through the door at Molineux.
The 31-year-old Wales international has been in talks with Wolves over the past week and today is due to conduct a medical at Compton.
Head coach Jackett had refused to discuss any potential signings until the deals are done, but with this signing now just having the formality hurdles remaining he was happy to discuss the move.
"If all goes well today I will be delighted that Sam will be my first signing as head coach of Wolves.
"Sam can fill any of the back four positions and brings a wealth of experience and quality to our club.' he told the Express & Star.
He continued: "Professionally he is a first-class individual and I am looking forward to working with him again."
Jackett previously signed Ricketts in 2004 as 23-year-old for Swansea who were in League Two at the time.
An undisclosed six-figure fee has been agreed between Wolves and Bolton, with reports suggesting the deal will not cost any more than £250,000.
