Leaving Wolves was right decision for Hennessey

Wayne Hennessey left Wolverhampton Wanderers for Crystal Palace in January.

The 3million move ended the 27-year-old Wales international's six-year stint at Molinuex after 166 appearances, the last of which came in April 2012 where he ruptured cruciate knee ligaments for the first time.

He had battled back from major injury twice, but for whatever reason he was unable to get involved with things at Wolves last season.

Instead he enjoyed first team football with Championship side Yeovil Town finding form and enjoying a recall to the international fold with Wales making 16 club and country appearances.

He looked finally set to make his Wolves return following a broken hand for Carl Ikeme, however he later decided that he didn't want to play after transfer speculation linked him with a move to Crystal Palace. That decision forced Kenny Jackett to field Aaron McCarey who had only just been called back from his loan spell with York City.

Wolves later rejected the initial bid from Palace and he remained at Molinuex for another month with Hennessey continuing to kick his heels, sitting behind Aaron McCarey in Kenny Jackett's pecking order.

Eventually the deal was completed much to the relief of Hennessey.

"Near the end it wasn`t very difficult (to leave) - I was playing League One football and I didn`t get a game, which was disappointing because I need to be playing to play for Wales.' Hennessey told the Express & Star.

He continued: '(Wales boss) Coleman pulled me and said I need you to be playing because Boaz Myhill was playing at the time for West Brom.

"It wasn`t hard for me - if a Premier League club comes knocking you`re going to go."

Hennessey made his debut for the Premier League side away to Fulham on the final day of the season.
