Free reign for Jackett

Free reign for Jackett

Kenny Jackett had a somewhat daunting task ahead of him when he took over as Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach a little under 12 months ago.

Back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and Championship had seen Wolves plummet to the third tier of English football.

During the various tenures of Mick McCarthy, Terry Connor, Ståle Solbakken and Dean Saunders the club had collected a number of players on inflated wages during the years in the Premier League and Championship.

Jackett took a hard line on the players he thought had no future at Molinuex and immediately put them into exile.

Despite still paying their wages, Jackett's position was a firm one; move on either permanently or on loan or see your career stall.

Roger Johnson, Kevin Doyle, Stephen Ward, Tongo Doumbia, Georg Margreitter, Kevin Foley and Razak Boukari all went out on loan last season but all are set to return over the summer.

Will Jackett need to move them all on again before he himself can delve into the transfer market? Apparently not.

"I don`t think it will affect my or our drive to be successful, definitely," said Jackett to the Birmingham Mail.

He continued: "It`s never been said to me 'we need to get rid of these before we bring these in` - that`s not going to be the case.

"No one at the club has said that it is going to hold us back."
