'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Maguire remains in limbo

If you thought things had gone quiet in regards to Sheffield United central defender Harry Maguire that's because they have.

If you've been away on holiday, here is a quick recap.

Wolverhampton Wanderers placed a bid of around 1.5million for the 21-year-old.

Wolves and Sheffield United held talks regarding a possible move, only for Premier League side Hull City to also make a bid.

Their best reported bid could eventually be worth around 2million, but had around the same figure as Wolves bid as an upfront payment.

With Hull offering Premier League and European football next season along with probably an inflated wage packet, Wolves would not be able to compete financially.

However with less chances of first team football on the cards at Hull, Sheffield United are unlikely to be swayed to accept a bid which includes 500,000 worth of add-ons which are unlikely to be triggered any time soon if they are appearance related.

So with that neither bid appeared to be accepted.

Which leaves Maguire in limbo.

"We`ve not received anything," Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough told Sheffield Telegraph.

Sheffield United have in fact offered Maguire significantly improved terms as part of a new contract extension, however discussions will not continue until after the transfer window has closed in over a months time.

You spend too much time reading and believing the Express and Star, Akela. Every player has his price, and in the case of maguire that is about double wolves miserable offer. United don't have to sell as they now have the Bey wealthy owners, and as maguire is under 24, united would recoup significant compensation at the end of his contract. Fulham appear to be interested at 3m, which is getting nearer his value. You mugged us off for McDonald, don't think it will happen with maguire. Incidentally, the express and star had Fabian brandy signed at walsall, he's signed for Rotherham!
