Ward close to completing Brighton move

Stephen Ward's move from Wolves to Brighton & Hove Albion could be completed ahead of the new season starting this weekend.

Talks had stalled as the south coast side refused to match Ward's wage demands.

Despite a change in manager at the Amex, Brighton are still interested in the 28-year-old and wish to sign him permanently over the summer.

Ward made 53 appearances for club and country last season, enjoying regular call-ups to the Republic Of Ireland side as Brighton just missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

With 12 months remaining on his contract, Wolves are keen to tie up a permanent deal and will only seek a 'modest six-figure return' according to the Express & Star.

Despite only seeking a modest fee, that fee has still been a stumbling block along with Ward's current Molinuex wages.

Ward is reportedly on 13,000-a-week at Wolves, an amount which wouldn't be all that surprising considering he's been at the club since January 2007 and played through the Premier League days.

However Brighton only contributed 10,000-a-week towards his wages last season with Wolves paying the remaining 117,000 over the course of his nine-month loan spell.

It's not known how much Brighton are willing to offer Ward, but to push the deal through over the next few days a compromise will have to be made by all parties.
