Ward exits Wolves

Friday proved to be a strange day for Stephen Ward, as he made his Wolves exit to Burnley in a shock move.

It had only been hours before that it had seemed that Stephen Ward's move from Wolves to Brighton & Hove Albion had finally edged one step closer following the two sides agreeing a deal.

Over the summer talks had stalled as the south coast side refused to either match Wolves demands for a fee or apparently Ward's wage demands.

Despite a change in manager at the Amex, Brighton were still interested in the 28-year-old and wanted to sign him permanently after he made 53 appearances for club and country last season, enjoying regular call-ups to the Republic Of Ireland side as Brighton just missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

With 12 months remaining on his contract, Wolves were keen to tie up a permanent deal and had only seeked a 'modest six-figure return', which was reportedly agreed.

Despite Ward's Molinuex wages being a potential stumbling block, it looked clear that a deal would be wrapped up.

But instead of making the move to one of our Championship rivals he instead completed a move to Burnley following their promotion to the Premier League signing a three-year-deal.

"I am sure everyone at the club will wish Stephen all the best with his new challenge," said Wolves` CEO Jez Moxey to Wolves Official Website.

He continued: "He played a key part in a successful time at the club in his first few years at Wolves, achieving promotion and then three seasons in the Premier League, and was always willing to play in several different positions for the good of the team.

"With Kenny having decided to take the squad in a different direction, Stephen spent last season on loan at Brighton and can now look forward to a fresh start at Burnley in what is a good deal both for him and for Wolves - we wish him well."
