Douglas' Delight At Wolves Deal

Douglas' Delight At Wolves Deal

Having let the cat out of the bag before Barry Douglas had actually officially joined Wolves, when he did he become the fourth new signing after the Molineux arrivals of Ryan Bennett, Roderick Miranda and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.

An undisclosed fee secured former Dundee United full back Douglas on a two year deal from Konyaspor, which will give the Scot his first taste of English football after spells in Scotland, Poland and Turkey previously.

Wolves will be a challenge to Douglas, he knows this, but it was a challenge that appealed to him and he can't wait to get started.

He told the Official Website: 'I am happy to be here and can`t wait to get going. I know Wolves are a big club and that this is an exciting challenge for me. They are going through a transformation at the moment and getting involved in that appealed to me. I share the ambition to play at the highest level possible and at a club like Wolves the opportunity is there to push for promotion and play in the Premier League.'

A problematic left back position could have been filled by the arrival of Douglas. However, he's not taking anything for granted.

'No one can come and expect to play in the team - I will work my socks off and once I am in it is up to me to then show what I do. I am optimistic but I need to get bedded in. I am coming here to stake a claim to play and get as many games as I can and help the team achieve.'

Douglas, who has over 200 appearances to his name and has scored an impressive 10 goals from full back, has enjoyed success in Poland at Lech Poznan and then Konyaspor in Turkey and is looking for the same at his next project.

He went on to admit the chance to work with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo influenced his decision to join Wolves.

'Nuno was one of the big appealing factors. To be able to work under a manager of his calibre - he will maybe have some different views to other managers and it will be exciting. It is a new project that a lot of guys won`t have seen at Wolves. I like to be offensive as a defender and I think it will be a match made in heaven with the way the gaffer wants to play. Hopefully it will all click and we will do well.'

The Championship can be very predictable in as much as it's unpredictable and Douglas knows it's 'one of the most respected leagues in the world' with this also appealing to him having 'always kept an eye on' it from afar in the past.

Can Wolves succeed? Maybe, maybe not but Douglas, 27, knows if we do what we should be capable of we'll have a 'great chance' of achieving promotion to the Premier League next season.

'I don`t think it is clear who will succeed in this division - it is all about whoever can put a decent run together. If we go about our business and we do well then we have got a great chance.'
