Former Norwich & England Goalkeeper Arrives

Former Norwich & England Goalkeeper Arrives

Wolves have added the experienced John Ruddy to the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Ruddy, who was released by Norwich, taken to Carrow Road by former Wolves boss Paul Lambert in 2010, has joined Wolves on a two year contract.

Having started his career at Cambridge his ability attracted the attentions of Everton but he was limited to just the one appearance during his time at Goodison Park. Ruddy's spell at Norwich saw him play in the Premier League and break into the England squad - winning his one cap in a win over Italy in 2012.

But for a broken finger ahead of Euro 2012 Ruddy probably would have been in Roy Hodgson's England squad that summer.

Wolves said Ruddy, 30, had 'attracted plenty of interest this summer' but Molineux will be his new home as the goalkeeper looks to add to his 388 career appearances to date.

Had Carl Ikeme not been diagnosed with acute leukaemia Ruddy would have battled with the Nigerian for the number one spot at Wolves - it goes without saying the keeper had nothing but best wishes for Ikeme.

Ruddy told the Official Website: 'First and foremost I want to send my best wishes to Carl and his family at this difficult time. As the club have already stated he is going to be backed with all the help and support that he and his family need. I know the players that have been here for a very long time with him will be feeling it as well. So yes, this is a bitter sweet feeling for me - it is good to be here but the circumstances could have been better.'

Adding: 'The plan would have been for me to come in and here and be competing against Carl. Having played against him over a number of years I know what a good goalkeeper he is so it would have been fantastic for the club to have had us competing and bringing out the best in each other. Now it is a situation where football takes a back seat for Carl and everyone`s thoughts are with him.'
