Wolves earn a late late win against Barnsley

Wolves gained a dramatic success against Barnsley at Molineux on Saturday in a game that saw all three goals come in the last ten minutes and the final two in injury time. On a day when Wolves were not at their best there was great relief when the 93rd minute winner went in, and getting results from below par performances is all part of achieving success over the season.
Wolves started with the same 11 as in last week's win at Nottingham Forest with Helder Costa returning to the squad with a place on the bench;
Ruddy
Batth, Coady, Miranda
Doherty, Neves, Saiss, Vinagre
Jota, Bonatini, Cavaleiro

Cavaleiro made a bright start for Wolves and he found Jota on the far post who headed well over, then had a shot just over the bar. But the lively opening subsided with Barnsley containing the home side well and having plenty of the ball. And they had a good shout for a penalty when Batth barged into Bradshaw but nothing given. Then Vinagre set up Cavaleiro who shot just wide. But it was a goalless first half with not much goalmouth action at either end.

Douglas replaced Vinagre as left wing back at the break and got the first chance of the second half when he brought a diving save out of the keeper after being set up by Bonatini. The Brazilian striker then completely miscues a vollied half chance before Batth made a crucial block from a Barnsley team gaining confidence. Enobakhare replaced Cavaleiro but Wolves best chance so far was to fall to Bonatini who was put through by Jota but hit the side netting. Batth again rescued Wolves with a block as the visitors were looking an increasing threat. Wolves made their final change with N'Diaye replacing Saiss and the new man found the key immediately setting up Enobakhare to convert with a well controlled volley with ten minutes left.

Just as 4 minutes added time is announced Bsrnsley found an equaliser they probably deserved. A long ball into the box was headed across goal from the back post and Wolves were not able to get the ball away and Jackson blasted it in from the edge of the box to seemingly earn the visitors a point. But Wolves broke for the last time in the 93rd minute and played Bonatini in on the left of the area. The striker turned to hit an excellent ball across goal and N'Diaye knocked in the winner.

Ruddy 7 - dropped one cross under pressure but did ok otherwise although he didn't have many saves to make
Batth 8 - re-established himself in the team and playing really well
Coady 7 - another sound defensive game
Miranda 7 - been much improved the last two games
Doherty 7 - has played consistently well for a couple of seasons now
Neves 6 - not at his best today but he remains the main architect of the passing game that attracted over 28,000 to watch a fixture that may have attracted 10,000 less a year ago.
Saiss 6 - steady game without getting any real grip on the midfield
Vinagre 5 - the youngster has done really well covering for Douglas in recent weeks but looked laboured here
Jota 6 - struggled to find the space and touch on the day after his heroics of recent games
Bonatini 6 - struggled without much support up front today but kept going to set up the winner
Cavaleiro 6 - had some bright moments in the first half but is careless with the ball on occasions
Douglas 7 - was one of the star turns in the team early season before his injury and made a difference on his return here
Enobakhare 7 - got his first goal for the club against Bristol Rovers in the week and his second here. An end product is what has been missing from his game and he can kick on now
N'Diaye 8 - made a massive impact scoring one and making one. A strong box to box player who can be a real asset

A thrilling end to the game that keeps Wolves right on track alongside Leeds and Cardiff at the top of the table. Two away games this week now with Sheff Utd on Wednesday followed by Burton on Saturday. The season has gone well so far and with Costa now set to return it may well get better.
