Instant Reactions - Sheffield Wednesday v Wolves (20/10/17)

Following today's clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Sheffield Wednesday hosted Wolverhampton Wanderers at Hillsborough for a 7.45pm kick off on Friday December 15, with the visitors taking a one nil victory courtesy of a Ruben Neves goal just after the half hour mark.

The goal was scored by Wolves against the run of play at the point and it moves the club seven points clear at the top of the Championship table and although Sheffield Wednesday had chances of their own, a red card (two bookable offences) for Morgan Fox ended their hopes of levelling.

Both sides however did only have one shot each on target across the 90 minutes.

Teams:

Sheff Wed:

Wildsmith, Palmer, Loovens, van Aken, Fox, Wallace, Butterfield (Lucas Joao 64), Jones, Reach, Rhodes (Nuhiu 64), Hooper.

Substitutes:

Matias, Kean, Pudil, Abdi, Ferrao Venancio.

Wolves:

Ruddy, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Neves, Saiss, Vinagre (Batth 67), Cavaleiro (N'Diaye 90+1), Bonatini (Costa 72), Jota.

Substitutes:

Gibbs-White, Miranda, Enobakhare, Norris.

Speaking to the clubs' twitter feed a short time after match day referee Darren Bond blew the final whistle, Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal explained.

'It's hard to talk about this game, we blocked their dynamic and it was a difficult game to them. The goal came from nothing. I'm not sure it was a freekick and I thought a minimum should have been a draw for us today. Our players played with quality, we deserve more than nothing from this game. We have nine players out, some who have formed the base of the team for the past two years. But I thought the players today did a good game. I was happy with them and they deserved more.'

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo in his comparative interview with the BBC's explained.

'I thought it was a deserved win. We had control and good moments of football but to defend like we defend against a difficult situation that Sheffield created in the second half takes quality and character. John Ruddy didn't make a save which says a lot about the way they defend and the way they put their bodies between the ball and our goal. We should have done better when we created three against three situations going forward but that will come.'
