Hardly Satisfied But Proud Of Our Efforts

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has said that he certainly wasn't satisfied with a point from the Preston North End tie, but he could be proud of the efforts of the players.

Heading to Deepdale for last weekend's Championship action, a scoreless but scrappy first half played itself out before Preston took the lead shortly after the half time restart. Wolves got a bit of luck as they were then reduced to ten men just minutes later as John Welsh picked up a second yellow card, and Helder Costa brought us level.

Despite there only being one side in the game at that point, Wolves couldn't get the second and had to be content with a point and speaking to the Official Website Santo explained that whilst he certainly had plenty of criticisms about the overall performance we put in on the day, the one thing he had to be delighted with was the attitude of the players in the way they battled to ensure we didn't lose the game.

'We knew that it was going to be a tough game. In the first half, well played to both teams. We created chances but Preston also. The second half is something we have to look at, I think we`re in control of the game and a set piece changes that. But the reaction was good, the boys worked well, good support from our fans, we prepare every game to win and of course we are not happy but the attitude was good.'

Santo went on to say.

'The reaction was good and we wanted to win the game. The boys tried, I think we created chances and things will come naturally but it was a tough game. At the same time, we want to win the game so your heart starts controlling your decisions. I think we have to be proud of ourselves with the 5,600 people shouting - at the end getting the reward of the applause, thank you for them and we prepare for Norwich.'

The gaffer went on to say that in some ways we were trying to overforce things in his mind and we needed to be more patient. That said he also had credit for Preston for their defences efforts across the game.

'We have to give credit to Preston because they defend well - we know that when they have one man less, the space is reduced and it requires more patience. With ten men, you see that you are in control of the game as you have one man more and you sometimes rush yourself. At the same time, the spaces are not there because Preston dropped and didn`t do anything, of course understandably.'

He added.

'We have to recognise that and it requires a different game - a game of patience and then the spaces will come, that`s something that we have to look at but we prepare always to play against 11. I think we were the better team today, I think we were closer to the victory and if we won, nobody would be surprised. I`m not happy, I went to the dressing room and the boys are down and we don`t have to be. We have to be proud because we did everything that we could do in the game but we didn`t win today. Let`s try and win the next one.'

Back to winning ways hopefully in tonight's clash at the Molineux against Norwich City.
