Competition Key To Success

Wolves temporary skipper is enjoying something of a purple patch. As he has done all season.

The unusual thing is, he is achieving it in his new found role within the team, at right back.

But as he explained to The Birmingham Post, whatever position he is in, he's happy, as long as he is in the team.

'I've not changed, I see myself as a midfielder, but I'm more than happy to play right-back for the rest of the season.

'If that's where I've got to play then that's what I'll do, left-back, centre-half, it's not a problem.

'Whether I'm at right-back or midfield I hold certain standards and I know I've got to keep to them if I want to keep my place.'

Whereas in days gone by, competition for places has not always been particularly fierce, Mick McCarthy now has enough young, eager talent to ensure that no one takes a starting place for granted, something Karl is only too aware of, having forced one of McCarthy's young wolves out of the picture himself.

'There's a lot of competition for places and I feel for the boys that have been left out like Mark Little, who's been brilliant for so many games. We're all a squad and everyone's done their bit this season.' he added.
