In The Sunday Times Jones has claimed he had locked horns with Sir Jack Hayward and found his job wasnt made easy by some of the people he had to work with.
Responding to Jones uncompromising comments Jez told the clubs official site
'We are disappointed and surprised that Dave Jones would choose to make disparaging comments regarding Sir Jack - they are unjustified.'
Jones also claimed that he was provided less money to spend for Wolves only Premiership season than he had been told to expect
Suggesting that this will be his last public statement on the matter ,but may well not be his final action over the piece, he added
'We will consider how best to address this and the article's unfair criticism and inaccuracies. However, we will not get involved in a public slanging match with a former manager, especially at a time when all of the club's efforts need to be focused on making the most of the transfer window.'The past should be left alone and we will not be making any further comment about this issue. What's important to us is concentrating on team matters and doing whatever we can to achieve our football objectives.'
Why Dave Jones should choose now, the start of the Transfer Window, to make comments he is fully aware would ruffle feathers and put the club in a bad light is open to conjecture. People have long memories in football, and any wounds opened by Jones sacking may still be raw, even 15 months down the line. Perhaps the root lies more in his fears of a big cash bid for his young striker Cameron Jerome, but with Jones bullishly declaring £2 million would be a down payment on the teenager, that excuse starts to falter. What is clear is that Jones now has a less friends in Wolverhampton than he had last week, which may just add a little more spice to the March 11th visit by Cardiff City.
