'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Transfer Latest

As Glenn Hoddle continues his search for a striker, the same source in Poland that originally revealed Wolves interest in Tomasz Frankowski has now reported that a new, improved second bid for him has been turned down.

The initial offer, thought to be a million Euros was rejected, and a second package put together, with additional payments and bonuses added, But the response has been the same, after key figures at the club held a board meeting to discuss Wolves' interest.

Elche vice president Jose Sepulchre has said

'He is vital to us, we have already made that clear. He is not on the transfer list, and after studying the offer, we would re-iterate that he is not for sale.'

Neil Mellor has been given permission to speak to Hearts, which is pretty much the same situation as last night. Although his future is still far from certain. Mellor's representative Mick McGuire said

'There has been interest from several other clubs as well as Hearts and Neil is weighing up his options. Staying at Liverpool has not been ruled out as he still has a contract there.'

But when asked of any Wolves interest in Mellor Glenn Hoddle poured cold water on any speculation saying

"Neil Mellor is a name which has been bandied around and he's a player we've shown some interest in. I know the lad but I wouldn't say he's the one we're going for at the moment."

A new name to be linked with Wolves is Polish frontman Marcin Zewlakow. The 29 year old is currently with French First Division side Metz, and scored for Poland in the 2002 World Cup finals in a 3-1 win against America.

He is usually regarded as a back up player to the main Polish strike pairing, but that doesnt mean he is a reserve player.

He was once targeted by Southampton, Blackburn and Tottenham, as well as both Celtic and Rangers, but turned them down over fears he would be behind existing strikers in the pecking order, and may forfeit his place in the Polish national side.
