Hoddle's Agent Speaks Out
Glenn Hoddle's agent, Dennis Roach has spoke to The Independent regarding Luton Manager Mike Newell's claims of widespread corruption in transfer dealings in England.
Labelling the claims 'pathetic' Roach said :
'You can't come out and say something like this. He has got to put enough evidence together before he speaks out. If he hasn't got it he is in trouble. In recent years the level of wages make any talk of bungs - particularly at the top level - pathetic.'
Roach isn't the only agent to be making statements contrary to Newells viewpoint. Which has led Newell to question why so many not yet accused are already declaring their innocence.
Newell has stated he is more than happy to speak to the FA explaining his claims, but the chances of them making any real impact are negligeable.
Without evidence, any statement given will probably be regarded as purely anecdotal, and not sufficient to launch a full scale investigation.
But the can of worms Newell has opened is bound to create calls for greater transparency and accountability within the game, that still likes to conduct much of its business behind closed doors.
