'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Is He, Isn't He?

The Freddie Eastwood transfer saga rumbles into it's Nth week, with Wolves maintaining their usual tight lips on the nature of their enquiries so far.

Not a bad thing, and a strategy that served manager Mick McCarthy well last season.

Not so good is the news Southend manager Steve Tilson's weekend proclomations that only a solitary, and point blank refused £1.5m offer has been recieved from so far.

That ammounts to double the figure initially attributed to Wolves interest in Eastwood, and a hefty profit for Southend.

Which raises a question or two.

True, Eastwood's form in front of goal for Southend has been impressive since signing from Grays in 2004, 1 in 3 last season to be precise, but does that really make him a £1.5m + striker?

With many opinions on Eastwood being formed more from YouTube than from actually watching the Roaming Romany in the flesh, few are in an informed position to answer that, but Mick McCarthy is, and he has a nack of finding players who can make the step up to Championship level when required.

What may force McCarthy to pursue other options is Southend's valuation of Eastwood, although with Jez Moxey handling the negotiatons, the chances of Southend holding Wolves to ransom is slim.

What is more likely is The Shrimpers pricing Eastwood out of the market as they look to cash in on what they see as a valuable asset.
