'If It's Football, It's Vital'

High Ambition

Few exemplified the need for Wolves senior players to lift their game, and stand and be counted last season than Seyi George Olofinjana.

Charged with the task of finding the net ten times by Mick McCarthy, Olfin did just that, ending last season as joint top scorer with Jay Bothroyd after becoming one of the first names on McCarthy's team sheet.

Playing in his desired, and more natural role of an attacking midfielder, and finally fully fit, Olofinjana's performances showed why Didier Deschamps was so eager to take the towering Nigerian to Monaco.

A transfer that never happened due to the shockingly appalling treatment handed out to the player when he travelled to Monte Carlo for talks with the French side.

Monaco's loss has turned out to be Wanderers quite handsome gain.

His own fiercest critic, Olofinjana has been quick to point out recently that although he met McCarthy's target, he could quite easily have eclipsed it, and has set his sights on achieving that this season.

"I want to better my target of next year and be looking to get 15. To be honest, I was disappointed with myself for only scoring ten - I had so many chances which I squandered.' he told the E&S last week.

With Wolves front line bolstered by the arrivals of Freddy Eastwood and Stephen Elliot, it would be easy to think that the team can now be less reliant on Olofinjana's goals from midfield.

But that won't enter into the thinking of the Super Eagle who sets his goals high, and his standards even higher.

A proud man, Olofin has yet to achieve his main aim, of helping Wolves back into The Premiership.

Something he feels the clubs history demands, and Wanderers fans deserve.

Anything less, and he will view his time at Molineux with sad reflection, and that can only be to Wolves advantage.
