Wolves v Watford. The History

13th February 1912. Nothing extra special about that date really but it marks the first ever meeting between Wolves and Watford. This was in the FA Cup and played at Watford, the game ended in dreary 0-0 draw. Eleven days later, and the first time, Wolves played Watford at Molineux resulting in an amazing 10-0 victory for the home team. 8,751 people saw the game with goals from Halligan 3, Needham 2, Brooks 2, Harrison, Hedley & Young securing the passage to the 2nd round for Wolves.

The next 3 games were again in the FA Cup. In 1980 Watford secured a 3-0 win at Molineux to progress to the 6th round. The following season the teams met in the 4th round. John Richards scored at Vicarage Road to secure a 1-1 draw and in the replay Richards and Parkin bagged the goals in a 2-1 win.

The first ever league game between the sides came in December 1983. This was the season that started the decline of the club as they begin the tumble through the leagues and Watford ran out 5-0 winners at Molineux, later in the season the teams played out a 0-0 draw.

It was in the 1990's that teams met each other nearly every season. Wolves first ever league victory over Watford came on the opening game of the 1991-92 season. Steve Bull and Andy Mutch bagged the goals in a 2-0 win away from home. Wolves secured the double that season when they bagged a 3-0 win at home, 14,175 fans witnessed goals from Bull Cook and an own goal from Holdsworth.

Overall Wolves and Watford have played 14 league games at Molineux. Wolves have come out on top 4 times, the last win coming in 2001. A Ramon Vega own goal securing a 1-0 win. On 9 occasions the teams have drawn and Watford have won just once. The last time Watford secured a win v Wolves was in an away game, coming in April 2001, a 3-2 win.

The most recent game came in April 2006 when the teams played out a 1-1 draw. Marlon King cancelled out Wolves opener, scored by Aliadiere.

Ahhhh, 13th February 1912.. I remember that day, was a cold and crispy clear morning on that day, later in the afternoon we (Chelsea FC) beat Spuds 1-0, what a day it was.
