Wonder Goal Defeats Wolves Reserves

Wolves reserves lost Tuesday nights encounter with Liverpool's seconds thanks to a wonder strike from Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann.

On 65 minutes Hamann spotted Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray off his line, organising his defence for a free-kick, and hit a Xabi Alonso style shot that sailed into the Wanderers goal.

Liverpool fielded a much stronger side than expected featuring several players accustomed to a bigger stage.

In a fairly tame first half, Liverpool created the better chances, but at the break the sides went into the dressing rooms all square,

Just past the hour mark Hamann found out why Wolves rate Matt Murray so highly when his tremendous shot brought a fine save out of the young 'keeper.

But then shortly after the game was settled, when the man who sank England in their last match at Wembley, found the back of the net in a similar fashion.

Whilst Matt marshalled the men in front of him, Hamann struck a quickly taken free-kick from inside his own centre circle, and there was little big Matt could do to stop the ball flying into the net

Wolves Reserves: Murray, Little, Jones, Ricketts, Lowe, Rafferty, Cornes, O'Connor, Ganea, Clarke, Rosa.
