Jackie Mac Coming Back?

Its now over 4 months since Jackie McNamara underwent surgery to correct cruciate knee ligament damage. But now, thanks to Wolves new training facility, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the former Celtic captain.

It's been a long hard slog, but now Jackie is starting to see the benefits of his hard work during his enforced lay-off.

'The longest I'd been out before this was eight weeks, and it's now been 18 weeks since the operation. It has been a frustrating time but I just have to keep thinking about getting back playing, which I hope isn't too far away now.' he said to the club's official site.

'The facilities here have been fantastic for me and things like the hydrotherapy pool have really helped my rehab.' he added

Wolves defence has been fairly solid in Jackie's absence, but there can be no doubt that it would certainly be strengthened by his return. And that might not be that far away. As he goes on to explain :

'On my last visit to the surgeon he said he was happy with the way it was progressing and that I am a little bit ahead of schedule so I am hoping that I'll get the green light to be back involved in things in six weeks or so.

'I have always been hopeful that I would play some part in this season again and that is my aim, as long as things keep going well.'

The layout of the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground means that players undergoing rehab have the best kind of inspiration they can get for achieving full fitness. Having to watch the rest of the squad train. Something that has certainly had an effect on Jackie Mac

'When I'm working in the gym I have to watch the boys training, as there's big windows looking out over the pitches, and I just want to go out there as well, it does spur you on.

'I am just at the frustrating point now where I feel good and I think I could go on and do more, but I have to hold back a little bit.

'The risk is always that I could set myself back by doing too much, and so I have to try to not get ahead of myself.' he added

McNamara's influence and experience has been sorely missed for a vast majority of this campaign. And those characteristics will be invaluable If Wolves can get him fit again for the seasons final few matches.

There's still time for the Scots defender to do it, and Vital Wolves wishes Jackie all the best in his continuing fight for fitness
