Siege Mentallity Good For Moral
Mick mcCarthy and his men are enduring a torrid time.
Any hopes that the phenomenal support given during last season's 6-0 drubbing by Southampton would extend through any innevetable rocky patch have been answered by the current slew of critiscism aimed at both manager and players in recent days.
But McCarthy believes that could be the very thing to spur hs side on over the last crucial months of the season.
I'd like to think it's a characteristic of all the teams I've had that they have a good spirit and camaraderie,' he told the Birmigham Post's Paul Berry.
'It is easy to have it when you're winning.
'When you're not winning it can be difficult, and people turn on the players very quickly.
'As much as they gave the players all the plaudits last season, you could see before that seventh game it was turning.
'When that happens they soon find out who their pals are and all their pals are in that dressing room.
'That has been proven by the team spirit they've got because they have all stuck together and I am delighted.
'The thing is, you only get that siege mentality if you get on, and I think there's a really close-knit community we've got.'
Fighting talk from a manager some would like to believe is fighting for his job.
