Wolves Post Match Comments

'We are not pleased with the draw. ' Glenn Hoddle told Wolves World after todays dismal display against Crewe.

Neither were the Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters who had paid to watch it.

Large sections of Molineux had emptied by the time the final whistle was blown. Of those that stayed, a large number booed the team off the pitch, and sang 'What a load of rubbish.' to see them down the tunnel

Wolves fought in the second half to regain some respect from the paying public, but a draw was never going to be enough to satisfy anyone. Least of all the disgruntled crowd.

'We have got to look at ourselves in the mirror. I can't accept that first-half performance. I didn't have to give them a rollicking at the break because the crowd's reaction was enough to let them know.' said Hoddle.

The contentious issue of how the crowd express their feelings at Molineux has talking point all week. And it looks like it will be next week as well.

One of the points sure to be picked up on by every Wolves fan is Hoddle's comments regarding the terrace reaction.

'We were hesitant and perhaps the crowd got to the players too much,' Hoddle said. 'Anxiety in the last third is affecting our shooting.' Adding

'But I thought Denes had an excellent game He was a diamond in there. But then he hasn't been here that long and doesn't yet understand about the pressures. That says something about how you can play when you haven't got that on your back.'

The argument over that is sure to rage. But Hoddle may have a point. Nervous players fear the ball, and shy away from following their natural instincts.

Just as a well below par performance creates frustration and intollerance for those that have paid to watch it.

It now appears to be a viscious cycle. With patience short, and confidence flagging, fans and players are feeding each others weaknesses, and in truth, strenthening the oppostion.

It's a precedent that has been set. The Molineux crowd will boo the players, when they want. Regardless of what it achieves. During a match nothing works like encouragement. And booing is nothing like encouragement.

There is a section of the crowd that is quite happy participating in something they know is not going to help get Wolves promoted. That is a crying shame. In that the displays on offer inspire that, and that they feel that way inclined to start with.

The opinion of Vital Wolves is that if that's how you want to express your fustration, go ahead. When they've drawn, or lost, after the final whistle. Not whilst the game is still in progress.

Whilst there is still a chance of a result, give them what they need, not what you feel like. If they dont perform over the ninety minutes make your feelings heard, when they will still get the message.

Molineux used to be a fortress, teams feared visiting because of the partisan support. If Wolves are to ever get promoted it has to get back to that. And in a hurry.

Whether its too late this season for both fans and players is now the question on everybody's mind.
