Wolves To Field Strong Side In Cup Game

Mick McCarthy has already named his side to face League One outfit Notts. County and if the visitors were hoping to meet a weakened side they can think again. McCarthy wants Wolves to get back to winning ways after two defeats on the road and is putting out a strong side, openly admitting he wishes for a good cup run. "It`s not an under-strength team...It`s a team with Premier League players who cost a few quid....There are no youth team players this time but that`s no detriment to them.....We need to get back to winning ways and I`d love to have a cup run.'

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News:

Mick will hand full debuts to Marcus Bent, who may silence his detractors if he can find a goal or two, and of greater importance, a first start following injury from 2.5 million pound summer signing Steven Mouyokolo.

Hahnemann and Craddock are given deserved rests, as is skipper Karl Henry. Stearman is given a chance to redeem himself after what I consider to have been a poor performance on Saturday- Berra is included probably for Mick to see if he wants to put him back in for the weekend. Elokobi gets a run out, as does Halford, the surprise name in the 25. Foley may well be operating in the center of midfield alongside Milijas who I truly hope can shine, whilst Ebanks Blake, possibly peeved at his demotion to the bench at the weekend following such a great start to the season will be out to prove a point. Expect Guediorra to shine.

Player to watch: Ebanks Blake

Can not have been happy with being on the bench at the weekend, tactical decision or not, and I expect him to bag a couple.

Notts. County Team News:

Mid table with indifferent form. Difficult to predict their league form let alone how they will rise to the challenge.

Player to watch: Hughes

Scored two at the weekend.

Match Facts & Stats

Match Prediction:

Thrilled that Mick is fielding such a strong side. We have been blessed with two home draws against lower league opponents and despite our near calamity in the second round, the penny seems to have dropped that we can't mess around, and if we win this one, and get a third home tie, the cup run is full of momentum. County have had an indifferent start, languish in mid table in League One, and with such a strong side out, I think Wolves can go out there and do some damage. I suggested we would put a bag full past Southend and in all reality should have lost. I am more than happy to put my neck on the line and say that with this side, we can bag four of five.

MM has picked a better side than his Southend selection, one that should win us the game. It has more cohesion, with a stiffer spine, and is more likely to play as a team than a mere collection of second-stringers is wont to do. It also provides players like Mouyokolo and Guedioura (whom I want to see in the Premiership team) with the opportunity to impress the manager and, in Mouyokolo's case, to gain a further 90 minutes of vital match practice. Moreover, it would be nice if Bent could prove the doubters (including me) wrong and net a goal or two. A win- any win- is important at this juncture, giving the team a boost and setting them up for the big match on Sunday.

Not the greatest result in the world, again behind, again needing extra time to finish off lowly competition!!.Our poor record in cup competition is I fear going to continue this year.Never mind I'll settle for Premier safety.

Oh dear, How wrong can one be: yet another disjointed performance brought about by throwing together a disparate group of eleven players. Evidently, as noted above, I thought that there was a rationale behind the selection and, of course, there was: (1) to give fringe players a game (2) to look at potential recruits to the first eleven and (3) to provide match practice for those who are likely to figure in the first eleven. Clearly, the rationale was not to put out a fully-integrated team of eleven players, whose positional awareness of each other has been honed by hours of match-time in the Premiership. That's fine ... as long as such a team turns out on Sunday, with the proviso that long-residence in the team is insufficient justification for retaining someone at the expense of a better player.
