Clough has gone on to say he was pleased to keep a clean sheet today. Sounds like it went well. A win is a lovely thought at the minute isn't it. He has not won but we have drawn 4 of the 6 since he took over and 'should' (yes I hate the word also) have enjoyed better returns from the games we have lost. I choose to look at the positives from today. I didn't expect a point from today and from all accounts if anyone was going to win it it was going to be us. I think anyone who comes in underestimates the shambles they are being handed but I actually have faith that this bloke can see where it is wrong and is doing his best to put it right. He has not won for 6 games. I look now to the fact he has only lost 2 of 6 and I really do anticipate an upward turn once they win the first one for him, he has made a difference and things will get better.

I agree with you, NYCW. DS is aware of our weaknesses (it's not hard to discern them, that is, unless you wear the board's blinkers) and has sorted out the problem in the heart of our defence (though not at LB). However, he has to find us a pacey, tall target man upfront as a matter of urgency otherwise we will never win games. I am on record declaring that we would sell Doyle over my dead body ... but that was after our first season in the PL. He is now a mere shadow of that player. Even so, it's no good looking at the lower divisions for the saviour as we already possess the best striker there in Cassidy. If he is not given a chance, he will not progress. It's not as if SEB can provide the goals: he might score one or two but he squanders umpteen chances. Moreover, in general, DS (like Warnock) does not use his substitutes properly, nullifying any impact they might have had on the outcome of the game. Apart from keeping Cassidy on the bench, he did not bring Peszko on yesterday until the last moment. Currently, he is by far the best RW we possess, especially as Boukari is going to be out for the season. We need to start with him, if only to widen our attack and to take some of the pressure off Sako. But, of course, to use our wingers effectively we need a big target man in the middle ...

agree we need a target man - so why not try Johnson when he comes back! because he ain't going to get a game in defence the way Danny and Gorkss are playing. Looks like we are being linked with Jack Robinson left back from liverpool on loan.

It's a thought, johnwolf, but does he have the pace, ball control, agility and accuracy of shot?
Southbank60
It's a funny suggestion and if Mick was still around maybe he would try it. Dick Dick was thrown up front several times under the bald one in acts of desperation. how many has he scored for us? More than kelvin granted, but hey. ANY natural left back would be a blessing, I think the manger knows is. RJ's red card could prove to have been the greatest blessing this club has seen in years. There is no way he can break up this partnership now. DB has been MOM twice and close to three times in his games and he can not possibly be dropped. He will not drop his new signing either (hope his legs held up after the game, he has not played in a while). DS is building from the back. He has stopped us losing, we are improving and we shall soon be winning. When, of course we sign a proper LB and a striker.
New York City Wolf
Not much more to add really, agree with all the points raised ... encouraging performance, and an in-form striker would have easily netted us all three points ... wonder who Dean Saunders has in mind, lets hope he isnt relying in SEB or Doyle to find some form... cos they've been poor for years now. I will also add my name to the list people lauding young Batth ... DS has absolutely rejuvenated our defence in 2 games when mick was seemingly unable to do so in 5 years. Left Back and a Striker next, please Dean ...
